Time Saver Tip: Weekly Outfit Planning

Need help saving time in the morning during the week? This daily outfit planning tip will help keep you feeling your best, organized and prepared for the week ahead.

This is my best tip for the dreaded daily morning question: “What am I going to wear today?”…

Think of this as an equivalent to your weekend meal prep. This one tip is great for any day during the work week when you may have overslept (me almost every day) and running low on time to take a shower, put on makeup, dry your hair, eat breakfast, etc. Think of this time saver tip as one less “to-do” task before starting your work day…

I take 30-45 minutes on Sunday night’s to plan out what my outfits will be for Monday-Friday each week. I usually start laundry in the morning on Sundays, so after I’m done meal prepping my lunches/dinners for the week and running any errands on my to-do list, I then move on to putting together outfits after my laundry is done and I have fresh, clean clothes for the week.

After I plan out my daily outfits, I steam and/or iron and hang all the pieces together in my closet in the order I want to wear them for each specific day. Here is the hand steamer I have and recommend! Good steamers tend to be expensive, bulky and hard to store, but this is not the case for this specific one!

Affordable Wardrobe Rack: Click here

I have been “bulk styling and planning” my outfits for years. I mean, I started doing this in middle school. I’ve always loved styling and planning out exactly what each outfit will look like from head to toe including all the accessories from jewelry to what handbag matched best. This was never a chore or something I didn’t enjoy, but I think all in all, it’s the best time saver hack I do for myself that many people could benefit from, even if it could be considered a chore to others. Just like meal prepping is my least favorite chore, I turn on some fun music and maybe pour myself a glass of wine to make it more enjoyable. This will work for bulk outfit planning too, if you need the extra motivation!

In addition to feeling like I have my life together and more time in the mornings during the week, this also keeps me accountable to actually get out of bed, take a shower and look presentable for the day. It’s been a year since making the decision to work from home indefinitely and I still feel like I’m learning how to do it well most days. I truly believe if you look your best, you feel your best and you are much more productive and confident in your work and daily tasks.

Today isn’t too late to plan out the rest of your daily outfits for this week! Turn on a little music and get yourself an alcoholic beverage and help yourself look and feel your best this week! If you try this tip, let me know how you like it and if it saves you time. Message and follow me on Instagram for more tips and outfit inspiration! Click here: @shannon.n.jones

Spring Shoes Round Up

Despite the fact that I’m writing this post on a sunny balcony, my shoe selection (and my sanity) can’t keep up with this cold-to-warm-to-cold-again weather that changes every. single. day. Since I can remember, this has always been the hardest time of year when it comes to deciding what pair of shoes is appropriate for my outfits. A typical spring day in Denver consists of chilly mornings with bright and sunny afternoons, which makes getting dressed a pretty difficult task.

After asking my Instagram followers if spring shoe selection was a common problem, I decided to put together a list of my favorite spring shoes to help y’all. Some listed below I do actually own, while others I probably will in the near future. ๐Ÿ˜‰ You’ll notice that I kept it very simple when it comes to colors and patterns. You’ll see a lot of black and nude shades – this is because they’re versatile and easy to style. So here you go, spring shoes for those “what the heck am I going to wear” mornings…

Peep Toe Booties:

img_6925

Vince Camuto Peep Toe Booties: My favorite of all time, for real.

Tom’s Booties: Very similar as above, just a little more casual.

Cole Haan Cognac Booties: Simple, yet timeless.

Cole Haan Booties in Black: Same as above!

Peep toe Mules with a heel in SO many colors! Shoot, I need these.

Mules:

Steve Madden Snake Skin Mules: My favorite shoes I own. Til death do us part, I’m serious. I wear them all year long.

Steve Madden Black and Tan leather Mules: Closet staples. I wear these to work constantly and they’re so cute paired with casual pieces for the weekend!

Target’s A New Day Cognac & Black Mules: S’cute and also budget friendly!

Mules with a heel: I just love a good heel.

Loafers:

Leopard print loafers: Always my go-to for pattern mixing!

Plaid loafers: For the office. AND on sale!

Snake Skin loafers: I can’t get enough. Spring, summer, fall & winter – all the seasons are covered with these beauties. 44% off right now – woo!

Sneakers – Casual and Work Appropriate:

img_1740

THESE WHITE SNEAKERS: I’ve been wearing them non-stop! I’m currently writing this post in them. ๐Ÿ™‚ They’re comfy and the price makes me happy.

Topshop white sneakers: I’m diggin’ these, too. Also available in a fun print!

Steve Madden Platform Slip On Sneakers: Casual for the weekend and comes in 3 colors!

Tall Boots

Lucchese “Donna” Boots: My most recent splurge and I still don’t regret it in the slightest.

19 Random Facts About Me

It’s officially been two years since I decided to follow a passion of mine and start this style blog and Instagram account. From a young age, I knew I wanted a career in the fashion industry and made steps to pursue that dream by earning my degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising. Three years after I graduated, my life went a different direction and I pursued another passion of mine, which is now my full-time job (read more about this below!). I truly love my job, but missed the industry that has always been my first love. My vision behind my blog and Instagram account is to provide you with daily style inspiration and tips along with education and awareness about the industry, fabrics, colors, pattern mixing, store sale alerts and much, much more. There are a lot of moving parts in this industry and it’s one I hope to teach others about through my writing and posts on social media platforms.

Because we have some new faces around here two years later, I put together 19 random fun facts about me so you actually know the woman in front of the camera.

  1. I am originally from Spring, TX – born and raised. I lived in Colorado, and Arkansas for college, but I will always be a Texas girl!ย
  2. My brothers named me after watching the gymnast, Shannon Miller, perform in the Olympics a few months before I was born. My middle name, Nicole, came from my mother’s nickname in her high school French class. I am currently still the only female Jones in my immediate family.
  3. I am one of five children from the same incredible parents. I have four older brothers and they are the best people! The boys are all about 2 years apart and Number 4 and I are 4.5 years apart. All those boys didn’t spill the beans about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny or even the Tooth Fairy. I think I believed in Santa until I was in 6th grade – haha. The best kind of childhood.
  4. I am an aunt to 7 sweet nephews!
  5. I went to University of Arkansas where I earned my degree in Apparel Merchandising and Product Development – some of the best years of my life (doesn’t everyone say that about college though?). I chose Arkansas because at the time I didn’t know whether I wanted to go the design route or the retail route. My major was both of these avenues in one degree, unlike the other Universities I was interested in. My major was small at the time, but has continued to grow and become well-known around the country. If I could go back to college just to take the courses in my major, I would 100% do it. I miss those days!
  6. I am a Zeta Tau Alpha sorority member and held positions in my chapter throughout my four years.
  7. I was Editor-in-Chief of the Greek newspaper on campus my senior year of college. I managed a small team of writers and still keep in touch with a few these days. One of them is actually the reason I work at my current job – shout out to you, Noah Mercer! ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. I work for a company called EF Education First. I am a consultant for about 80 teachers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and work to send them and their students on educational tours around the world! I get to do some traveling myself while changing the lives of students. It’s a win win.
  9. Travel is my second passion behind the fashion industry. Within the past 3 and a half years, EF has sent me to 15 countries and this has completely changed my outlook on life and other cultures.
  10. I worked in the fashion industry for 2 years after college as a boutique Store Manager/Visual Merchandiser and Social Media and Marketing Director for stores in Dallas/Fort Worth.
  11. I was named ‘Best Dressed’ my senior year of high school – haha! I used to show up to high school in heels, and that makes me cringe a little now.
  12. Fashion & style – It’s always been a part of me. I’ve dreamed about having my own clothing line since I was a little girl. This is still one of my lifelong goals along with owning my personal styling business.
  13. My favorite fast food is Chick-Fil-A, but I can definitely put down some Whataburger. I am a full believer that Whataburger is better than In-and-Out. Hands down (half of you are rolling your eyes right now – I can just feel it!). If my father and brothers taught me anything, it was to eat and I love them for that.
  14. Also sushi. I love fish and try to eat as many meatless meals as I can. This is when my body feels the best. It’s hard for me to cut out fish though, so. damn. good. and healthy!
  15. I have a sweet puppy: Shay (6 years old! Not really a puppy anymore). Shay is a Golden Retriever who is a sassy little girl. She’s pretty conservative with her face kisses, only does it when she really feels like it. She’s the queen of the house, if you can’t tell already. There’s a whole highlight of her on my Instagram account I highly recommend diving into. Click here to see the good girl in action.
  16. My favorite shows: Anything scary, murder mystery shows, ‘You’ on Netflix, The Voice, Dancing With the Stars, Say Yes to the Dress (basic I know, but I can binge that show like no other!).
  17. I am a Virgo. Type A, all the way.
  18. My favorite season: fall. Specifically fall in Fayetteville, AR where my alma mater is located. I’ve never seen trees all those shades of beautiful!
  19. I am so happy you’re here.ย And that’s a fact! Thank you for being here and allowing me to live out my dream. You are a part of the beginning plans and helping my goals and dreams become a reality by being here. You allow me to do what I love, share my creativity with the world and motivate me to be better. So, thank you for being here and finding a reason to stay. It truly means the world to me.

Cheers,

My Opinion on SheIn

You may have seen shein.com pop up on your Instagram or Facebook feed in an advertisement and wondered about the brand. Their clothing is CUTE and their Facebook advertising always catches my eye. I did some research on the company about a year ago and learned the clothing was being produced in China, like most fast fashion brands, and it worried me some because of the shipping time and quality. They were having a huge sale on intimates that day and thought I’d give it a try. I received the order about a week later and of course loved everything. I also learned they have a large team of designers and partnerships with manufacturing companies to deliver the best quality product for the best price. Read more about their mission and production here. They even show photos of their 10,000 square foot very clean and organized warehouse!

Once again, their social media advertising got the best of me and I put in a big order last month to post about on my Instagram for y’all. After a couple posts about SheIn (some say she-in and others say sheen. She-in is correct.), I started receiving messages about the quality, sizing, shipping time, etc. and thought I’d put together a few of my thoughts for y’all.

unnamed (21)Click to shop: Sweater // Jeans // Booties // Handbagย

The price is right:

Most items on their website are under $30, which we can all agree might actually be the best thing ever. Here’s the thing I love – they know they’re a fast fashion brand and they aren’t marking up their clothing acting like they’re quality is worth a large price tag. I appreciate that, because in all reality, the pieces will be ready for donation after a season or two.

Read the reviews:

This is my biggest advice for placing an order! They have TONS of reviews from other shoppers on all their items and this makes shopping on the website SO. MUCH. EASIER. Many reviews have photos so you can see what the clothing actually looks like in real life. I haven’t had to return much and it’s definitely because of the informative reviews.

unnamed (19)Click to shop: Sweater // Jeans // Loafers // Leather Jacket // Handbag

Don’t be afraid of the shipping time/return policy:

I have placed three orders with SheIn and I am very impressed by the shipping time! The first one took about a week and a half (probably because they had more orders than usual from the sale) and my last shipment took less than a week! I did more research on where exactly the clothing was shipping from, in addition to China, and learned they have multiple warehouses all over the world. They have warehouses in California, New Jersey, Dubai and Belgium. Your items will be shipped from the nearest facility that stocks the item you ordered. This also means your clothing can arrive in multiple orders, like Amazon, which always annoys me, but it makes sense.

SheIn offers free shipping on orders over $49, but they have sales that include free shipping quite often. And it’s pretty easy to spend over $50 on their website…I mean come on!

The brand also offers free returns from the US – woohoo! I often order two different sizes of one design because I’m not sure which sizing option will work best. This return policy makes me a very happy shopper.

Expect fast fashion quality:ย

Here’s how I explain their quality – in between H&M and Forever 21. It’s not quite what you can expect from H&M, but it’s definitely better than pieces you find at Forever 21. And most pieces are more affordable than Forever 21’s pricing. Thanks for not breaking our bank, SheIn!

I hope this information helps and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram here: www.instagram.com/shannon.n.jones or at shannonnjones26@gmail.com.

Essentials for the Fall Wardrobe

Stores have changed over to fall garments and all the summer merchandise is on the sale racks in the back of the stores. It’s now officially that time of year again and I’ve been so ready for it! There’s just something about fall clothing that makes my heart happy. The oversized sweaters, the cozy cardigans, the leather jackets, the boots and booties – I’ll never grow tired of it all and by September of every year, I’m ready for the wardrobe switch.

Now that the stores have officially flipped, I thought it would be beneficial to share my top 5 fall essentials for your wardrobe. Here we go…

Essential #1: Black leather jacket & Suede jacket

(I realize this is technically two essentials, but we’ll just go with it.)

These two jackets are my closet staples for the fall and winter months. Here is my favorite black leather jacket that I wear constantly and this suede beauty that is definitely my number one favorite garment in my wardrobe. Don’t be surprised if these two jackets last you for years – the quality is top notch. They’re both worth the dollars, I promise!

Essential #2: Cardigans of multiple neutral colors (black, beige, grey)

This cardigan from Old Navy is a great staple that is available in multiple colors. Cardigans for me are the perfect layering piece and are a great way to complete an outfit and feel comfortable all day.

Essential #3: Dark jeans that fit just right

My all time faves: J.Crew 9 high-rise toothpick jeans. This denim has “perfecting pockets” and I think this feature is genius. The pockets are very slim and are designed to suck everything in around your lower belly area. Think how Spanx make you feel and that’s the same feeling you’ll get with these. Also, the color is the perfect shade for all year round. To read more about why I love these jeans, read this post.

Essential #4: Winter white sweater

Everyone needs a basic, off-white sweater as a go-to for an easy outfit. On days when you don’t have enough energy to think about putting together an outfit, this sweater in the fall paired with the J.Crew 9 high-rise toothpick jeans and booties is the answer. Add your favorite necklace or scarf to top it off and you have an easy, effortless look.

Dolman sleeves were a huge trend last year which looks to be continued into this fall, as well. This was my favorite dolman sleeve sweater last year and it’s definitely going to be making an appearance again real soon!

Essential #5: Cognac colored booties

Say yes to cognac – I wear this color with EVERYTHING, even black! If you’re shopping on a budget and can’t decide which color to choose, I say cognac or anything close to it. This style changes slightly every year – I have 3 different colored pairs from 3 years ago and they are still going strong! Highly recommend!

Under $30 Amazon Dress Roundup

I did some Amazon shopping recently and found a few great dresses (and one jumpsuit!) for the summer so I thought I’d share. I personally am not a huge online shopper, so I was a little skeptical to order clothing off Amazon. I’m pretty particular about how fabrics feel and how garments fit, so shopping in a store is always what I prefer.

I was pleasantly surprised by what I found! Everything fit me really well and with a little steaming, the fabrics aren’t too bad! With that being said, I plan to keep everything I purchased. Every piece reminded me of clothing I would see in these modern day, more affordable boutiques nowadays, but without the markup. Everything I purchased is under $30 and very reasonably priced for what you’re getting.

Something to keep in mind about Amazon finds – more likely than not, it isn’t going to be the best quality. My apparel design mind goes back and forth about this topic and sometimes I have a hard time wearing fast fashion clothing because of the quality, of course, but also because of the life threatening conditions it’s made in. Although, this is a topic for another day if y’all are curious about my thoughts around this aspect of the industry.

Great quality clothing makes me so happy, it’s as simple as that. I love to examine the work that was put into the garment and I appreciate the time it took to create the piece. But not every piece in my closet is that great quality everyone wants most because $$$$$. You truly get what you pay for and I think that is so important to remember with every clothing purchase. Because I’m not made of money and I understand these pieces won’t last but a couple washes, I’m happy with what I found and thought I’d share them with y’all, as well.

First up, this short sleeve v-neck, double side slit, maxi dress. The fabric is soft and stretchy. It’s a versatile piece you can dress up or down depending on your plans. Because it’s over-sized, I recommend sizing down one size. I have it tied at the bottom here, but I will style it without the tie for a different look, as well. Available in multiple colors and prints! // Click here to shop.

unnamed (11)

Second, this spaghetti strap, draw string waist midi dress. The fabric is lightweight polyester and I love how it cinches at the waist, pulling in at the smallest part of our bodies. I think this is a great option to wear to a wedding with heels or even dressed down with sandals & a summer hat to brunch. This dress is true to size. Keep this in mind, the fabric is not stretchy. // Click here to shop.

unnamed (15)

Next, this loose fitting, v-neck ruffle mini dress. I plan to wear this to the office – it’s not too short and has a conservative v-neck. This is another great wedding attire option, but can also be dressed down with sandals for a more casual look. It also comes in multiple colors and a sleeveless option, as well! This dress is true to size. Keep this in mind, the fabric is not stretchy. // Click here to shop.

unnamed (13)

Up next, this shoulder tie, asymmetrical hem jumpsuit. This is just too cute and fits me like a glove! It is true to size and comes in multiple different patterns and colors. The jumpsuit is perfect for a party, date night or wedding. Keep this in mind, the fabric is not stretchy. // Click here to shop.

unnamed (14).jpg

Here we have this v-neck, front & back slit midi dress. I love a good floral print, especially this one because you can transition it into the fall! It also comes in multiple prints and colors and fits true to size. Keep this in mind, the fabric is not stretchy. // Click here to shop.

unnamed (12)

And last but not least, my all time favorite! I’ve shared this a handful of times on my Instagram feed, but for good reason. This is a stretchy polyester fabric that is soft to the touch. It is available in multiple patterns and fits true to size. // Click here to shop.

25 Days, One Carry On & Personal Item

As I get ready for my big Europe trip, I thought I’d put together a resource about packing as I know this is a tough topic for most travelers. People either hate to pack, over-pack, under-pack…I mean, the list goes on and on about the struggles with getting prepared for a trip!

At the end of this week, I’ll be leaving for my educational student tour for work! For my full time job, I work with teachers in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas to recruit their students for international educational tours. It’s a great gig, y’all! During this time, I will be traveling along side an EF Tours student group to learn what our travelers experience first-hand. This will be my third student tour with EF, and while all my tours have been unique and exciting in their own ways, I’m REALLY looking forward to this one because I’ll be in the Swiss Alps! I’m starting in Austria, heading to Germany and will end in Switzerland. After tour, I will be spending more time in Frankfurt, Berlin and Brussels with friends before heading back to Switzerland for EF’s Leadership Summit which I will help staff. It’ll be 25 days of new experiences and exhaustion, I’m sure!

unnamed (9)

Because of all these different countries I’m traveling to, I’ll obviously be flying quite a bit, so the thought of checking a bag is daunting. I made the decision that a carry on will just simply have to do and of course I made sure before I wrote this post – haha! Here’s some of my best advice below when you’re packing for 25 days, or any trip at all!

The Clothing.

For trips, I find myself packing easy outfits that don’t require a lot of maintenance or styling. For this specific trip, I’d say 90% of my outfits are dresses. Dresses are the easiest items of clothing to simply just throw on and go.ย  Because I’m going to the Swiss Alps, I needed to pack slightly warmer. I packed my white jean jacket and a sweatshirt, just in case! I usually try to avoid bulkier clothing in general when I pack as it takes up too much room.

For shoes during the summer months, I pack my “go-to’s”. My Steven Madden strappy sandals that match with EVERYTHING (here is a dupe), my Puma tennis shoes, trendy slide on sneakers and heeled, strappy sandals for a night time, dressier look. I already know I’ll miss my shoe collection back home, but space is real limited!

Packing Cubes.

These are space and life savers! I take my clothing and fold the item in half, roll it as tight as possible and then stack the items neatly in the cubes until each are filled. Rolling the clothing will help with wrinkles, too!

unnamed (7)

For long stays, I divide my trip up into sections for however many cubes I have and hang the clothes up in the sections before folding, that way I’m only wearing certain clothes from certain cubes throughout the stay. This helps my luggage stay organized and I only have one cube opened at a time during my trip. This makes living out of a suitcase much easier!

unnamed (5)

Click here to shop my recommended packing cubes that range from $15-$20 – much cheaper than checking a bag! ๐Ÿ˜‰ These I found are much cuter than mine, too! My packing cubes were given to me by my company, so I can’t pass up the free option. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Luggage.

This has been my favorite set of luggage I’ve ever owned. My parents bought this set for me for Christmas 2 years ago and I’ve used it for every trip since. The carry on doesn’t look very big, but you know now how much can fit in there!

unnamed (4)

The top luggage piece fits under *most* airline seats and I count this as my one “personal item”. I usually stuff my handbag into this luggage piece so the agent doesn’t stop me at the gate for having over the luggage limit on board. I only bring this piece for long trips and use it specifically for my toiletries, shoes and hair tools. For shorter trips, my carry on is enough to fit it all.ย  Click here to shop my luggage – it’s currently 50% off!

Happy traveling!

Spring Trend Alert: Lightweight Blazers

My favorite trend this spring: lightweight blazers. I fell in love with the over-sized style of blazer in the fall and my love has continued on into the spring. Are we surprised? NAH. I put together a couple blazers I found recently for this post that I just can’t get enough of.ย What’s huge right now? Blazers with matching shorts. Walk into any store and you’ll find two piece sets to be worn together or as separates. SO CUTE. After my next bonus hits my bank account, you bet two piece sets are next on my list.

How to style spring blazers:

For the office…

  1. A great pair of “paper bag” pants (my other obsession)
  2. A patterned blouse to give your outfit some character
  3. A pair of comfortable work heels to get you through the day
  4. And dun, dun, dun duuuuun…the over-sized blazer

img_1558Blazer, Blouse & Pants: H&M // Heels: Target, A New Day // Handbag: Dooney & Bourke

For date night…

  1. A simple, basic blouse
  2. A pair of shorts you feel great in
  3. Sassy wedges that make your legs look HOT
  4. Bold earrings to complete the look
  5. And of course, a striped, adorable linen jacket

img_1668Blouse, Blazer: & Wedges: Target, A New Day // Shorts: Ralph Lauren // Handbag: Old Navy

For your casual Friday…

  1. A simple, basic blouse you can wear over and over again
  2. Distressed jeans that make you feel like a TEN
  3. A pop of color for earrings
  4. Wedges that give you a shoe crush
  5. A cross body bag that matches the…
  6. BLAZER.

For the Love of Old Navy

Sometimes Old Navy can be a hit or miss retailer for me. I can walk in, make a lap and leave OR walk to my car with bags filled with new clothing pieces. Anyone else feel that way?! Recently, I had one of those moments when I walked to my car with hands full thinking, “Gosh, I just love that place.”

img_1749Dress: Old Navy // Wedges: DSW // Jean Jacket: Old Navy

My last trip, I left the store spending way too much money and time, but it’s okay, because it made up for the times I left empty handed….right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was pretty impressed by the quality of these picks in this post! The fabric doesn’t feel inexpensive and 2 of the 3 are even lined! I can definitely count on these pieces to last more than just one season.

img_1756Dress: Old Navy // Shoes: A New Day, Target // Handbag: Dooney & Bourke // Neck Scarf: A New Day, Target // Earrings: Target

This is why I’m giving away a $30 giftcard this month to one lucky winner! I want y’all to have that same feeling I felt and leave with good quality pieces to add to your spring and summer wardrobe.
